Sun Mountain

This is a piece that I made a while ago, which will tentatively be used for a pal's album artwork, but for now I just had it printed on canvas.

Redlands Reprise

Quite a while ago I created a quick composition of a photo I had taken for use as a Facebook profile picture.
ugh is he talking about fb? lame
It got lost in the shuffle and I rediscovered it, deciding I'd like to prepare it for screen printing posters.
They haven't been printed yet, but if you're interested keep your eyes on the blog, they'll show up sooner or later.

Leo Trio

Star signs are weird. Leos are, in my experience, pretty cool though.

What Time Is It?

ADVENTURE TIME! C'mon grab your friends.

I have a lot of obsessions (I call them hobbies) but one of the bigger ones is Adventure Time. What a show! Of course you've already seen it and agree that it is flat out impressive, so just for fun I threw together a little illustration of Jake and Lady Rainicorn.

Jake must be seeing through his MIND's eye.
It's rough but maybe someday I'll clean it up and screenprint it? Who knows.

Gigi X Cliche

Long time no see, right? Anyways, I threw together this flyer for an event my friend is hosting at Cliche in Minneapolis. If you dig female fashion, you should check it out. Short notice (it's tomorrow!) but I'm satisfied with the way the flyer turned out.

VietZom Grrl

I've been working on this one for a long time. I think I'm finally satisfied with the final product:

Close-up

It went through a million iterations. Here's some pictures to convey (part of) my process:

Layers: Not just for Adobe

Trying to find a good color scheme.

Youth Culture

This personal project comments on the sustainability of the ideals of youth culture. I used popular imagery associated with a certain sect of our generation that is consistently undefinable thus far by anything other than common material objects such as clothes and brands of products. It is a topic that, amongst my peers, has been beat into the ground without eradicating much of the mythos surrounding the definition of the movement that is: Hipsters.

Without going into too much detail on that subject (politics...) I thought I'd show you just some of the pieces that comprise this project:

Screenprinting: for your Home

[Choppy panoramic of] the studio space
Another lull in my blog activity has been caused by screen printing. I built a table and my friend and I amassed the materials needed to be able to screen print. Here are some photos from our first gig, a concert poster for Live Letters

Poster Design by Dschwen
I'll be sure to update [hopefully soon] with some of my own screen printed creations.

Paintings Here & There

There has been a lull in my design work. Not entirely, but in terms of blog updates, I've been slacking. Not slacking, but painting. Here are some of my finished pieces I thought I'd show you:
A gift for ma lovely sista.

Everybody 9

The time has arrived for another one of my bi-annual mix cds: Summer Time.

Citation of references for inspiration of cover design: Summer time, warmth, frisbees.

Kid Sister: Kid No Longer

My sister is graduating high school. That is crazy. Seems like just yesterday I was jumping in leaf piles with her and placing her in miniature doll beds, pretending she herself was a doll.
I threw together a graduation party invite for her; looks like this:

Al's Brew

It was recently my totally awesome Dad's birthday. Since he collects old beer cans, I figured a custom designed label would be a fitting gift.
I went for a pretty classic style and approach. After it was ready for printing, I found an old style beer can to paste it on;
They don't make 'em like they used to.
The existing rust from the can showed through during the pasting process, but it added a really great touch of antiquity. One of those "happy mistakes" I'd always heard about...

\m/etal

I was set to design this logo for a client, but it never got past the planning stages.

I was excited enough about the idea to take it to a [rough] final stage, just for fun, and here's how it turned out:
Babies' first metal band logo!

Melancholia

I learned myself a new trick! In order to get the hang of it, I decided to make a mock-movie poster. I've seen the likes of Graphic Design giants such as Olly Moss and Tomer Hanuka do their takes on movie posters (Yes, I chose the same movie as Tomer but what can I say, it's an awesome movie!) to which I could never dream of comparing, but in spite of that I decided to do my own modest little version of one.
Really minimal and it kind of gives it a sci-fi vibe, but it was a quick little project.

Uptown Art Fair 2012

Hello, it's me. It's been a while, hasn't it? Have you been thinking of me, like I've been thinking of you? Fond memories... Passion filled rendezvous... Heart-wrenching goodbyes...

Woah woah woah, got a little side tracked. Anyways, I came up with a submission for the Uptown [Minneapolis] Art Fair t-shirts this year. It's simple, but I wanted to appeal to a wide demographic. Hopefully I win! But no hard feelings if I don't, I had fun making it.

The font was designed by Måns Grebäck, and I added the reflection-type flourishes.
A quick mock-up.

Rorschach (Toxic Ideation)

So as you may or may not have noticed, in reference to my Toxics album cover, the finished product was monotone. It didn't start that way though.

Stumbling through old files (oh, those files!) I found the original color version and appreciated how well it worked as a stand alone, I thought I'd show you guys to see your opinion.

Which further stemmed from some paint blobs I made, as seen below.

What do you see here?

Now if only I could find a decent large format printer... (Tips & hints welcome!)

Handwritten Notes

  I don't know.
I always get these strings of words stuck in my head and I feel like they should be manifested somehow. "Handwritten Notes" is one of those said strings.
Maybe someday if I start a correspondence with someone after I'm famous, I can make this a cover of a short book or something. Or something.

Sophia

I took this photo of my friend, Sophia, a long time ago in a friend's studio complex. I decided to use it as design exercise today. I love portrait style photos.

Six Words

This is something I threw together a while ago for Six Word Story Everyday. It looks as though they are no longer posting daily submissions, and they never posted mine even when they were, but I still like it. It was nothing fancy anyways.
I'll probably make more of these.

The Toxics

I want to be in a punk rock band. I already made our first single cover.

Second Iteration

Just joshin'.

I made up a band name etc. because I like to use text in designs. Picture, if one of my designs were a room, type & font would be the proverbial rug that really ties said room together. Without that "rug", something would just be missing, Dude.
