Dear Design

It's been so long, I know. And I've been so tired. It's not that I don't love you, Design, it's my job. My new job is taking up a lot of my time. Design, please don't leave. Look, remember this? We made it. Together. Remember this summer when we made this?
Wasn't that fun? We were going to make this into a screen print, Design. You and me baby. We even made a second iteration, that we liked better.
Since we both love sludge metal. Remember listening to metal music together, Design?

I know it's hard to get used to me being gone, Design. Don't think you're not always on my mind. How could I forget about you? I'll be trying to come around to visit you more often, darling Design.

You'll always be my one and only.

Please don't swear at me like that.

Foolish November

Hello ladies & gentlemen. This is a poster I designed for the Foolish Bastard crew of MPLS fame. The concert is sure to please, check it out Nov. 30th if you're in the dinkytown area. As per directions from 1990 himself, I went for a real "euro" vibe with a trashy spin.

Here's an inverse version:

A. Leo Collab 1

I recently had the proposition to collaborate with a photographer I know in Chicago. She was open to any interpretation that I could think of involving of her photos, so it has been a very open-ended & as-of-yet ongoing project.

This is a simple illustration I did of one of the photos she lent me:

I am playing around with creating a more photo-manipulation oriented piece using her photos as well, which I'll post at a later date.

Kids Music Swamp

I've been doing this design blog for a couple of months now. I've always wanted to do a music blog though. I made one up, called "Kids Music Swamp" (titled as such for reasons I can't recall,) that I will be tinkering around with in the coming months. Here's a logo I made for it:
Be sure to check it out in the near future for updates on the MPLS music scene.

Girl from the North Country

Beautiful things oft make interesting subjects for art. Overdone? Maybe. But I'm not complaining.

Cyclops

This is an illustration I made just for fun. I need to keep designing or I'll die -- like a shark -- even though I'm in the middle of moving into a new place. Without further ado;

Stamp & Post

I made my own postcards for various uses (thank you, invitation (?) whatever really.) Here's all I did:
Second times the charm: I forgot to make the image an inverse of the intended final product.

Crude, I know. The paper is fancy though?

Repeat!

Ink splatters for effect! (Poor Carpet ...)

Sample of final product.
It was a fun project, definitely, but there is no room for perfectionism in stamp making. Straight, consistent lines are tough. Not bad for something I've only done a couple times before, if you ask me.

Cheapo DJ Night Beta

This was a quick & dirty poster I did for me & my coworkers. Check us DJ (me included) every Monday at Cause, Lake & Lyndale, MPLS!

This is just a preliminary flyer to get the word out. If things go well, I may get to do another/screenprinted posters.

Flying Fortress Preflight

Hi friends. This is another "field trip" post wherein I am screenprinting a new design.

"Flying Fortress" will be my screen printing handle, for no reason other than that it has a nice ring to it. But here is a flagship shirt I created under that moniker.
She is beautiful but broken.

Gotta burn the image

Gotta flood the image

Glorious selfy

All done! It took some trial and error (which can be very costly) but I mastered it. I'm satisfied, but what do you think?

I'll be back this weekend with more fun stuff. Until then!

 PS:
These shirts are for sale, and it would be awesome if you wanted one, to show your support for the local arts, or for whatever reason!
This first run consisted of 9 (NINE!) shirts total, so if you want some in this color be sure to let me know quick!

Love Letter to MPLS

I finally got to start screen printing some of my designs, I'm psyched! I took some pics for y'all (which you may not find as interesting as I do, but anyways,) sorry about the low-quality cellphone pics!

The first design I printed was commissioned by Shameless Inc. and it was based on a design I showed you in an earlier post (Love Note to MPLS). The design was modified to this end:

My babies...

...They grow so quickly.

Pretty cool right?? Hand printed by yours truly and available at Shameless' Storefront on Franklin & Hennepin and soon to come online. I'll talk about that more later though.

I also hand-deliver, if you're in the MN area and are interested in one, as well as ship. Get at me if you're interested!

Luxury

This was a logo commissioned by an electronic musician and dear friend of mine. Luxury is a remix project, on a crazy beat-bending spree through the R&B and Hip Hop hits of radioland. Be sure to check into Luxury's soundcloud in the coming months to get your allotted dosage.

Love Note to MPLS

Sometimes it's good to get off the computer. Hard as that may be, Minneapolis, of thee I sing.

Destroy Rebuild

When you have no preconceived notions about how something should turn out, it's hard to tether yourself from completely going in all sorts of directions. This, I suppose, would be in exercise in going said directions [all sorts.]

Got a little crazy with the last one. Click to see larger images!

Job Search

Looking for a job can be tough. Especially with all these fun distractions!

Americant Dream

A design that I was playing around with;

Which may or may not be manifested more tangibly as a screen printed tee in a line that I'm starting soon. Keep your eyes peeled for more on that to come!

The wonderfully grimy display font beneath Bebas is called Nightbird, just FYI.

Somnus Wolfhound

Sry for the lull. Mainly that sorry is meant only for myself. I'm sorry, Jerfy. I'll make it up to you, let's go get milk shakes.

I dedicate this one to my car-dashboard ornament, Somnus Wolfhound.

Lord of Sleep.

Deer Skull

Going along with the aesthetic I laid down in my other post, here's another piece I was messing around with.

Coyote Slushie

Playing around with my tablet. I don't know why I like skulls and drips so much. Maybe I'm just succumbing to the masses. Doesn't that blue stuff look delicious? I bet it would give you a cavity.

Larva Ink Single

I made a cover for electro hip-hop R&B soul-bangers the Larva Ink, here's a run through of what I came up with:

With no creative direction from the client, I pictured a high heel shoe. And pink. Awesome right?
Didn't get very far (spent all my time on designing the font) before a rehaul was suggested.
 Direction #2:

Better than my last but still not completely realized. Onto Direction #3:

The client liked this direction, and here's the final product:
As stated on the 'sticker', the new single is out on iTunes and you can preview their music on Soundcloud.

Check ya latrrr!
